This is my go-to smoothie recipe! Not only do I enjoy it, but my kids love it as well! This Strawberry Oat Smoothie is made with healthy ingredients and will keep you full for a while. It will also definitely satisfy your sweet tooth as well! If you need a quick breakfast that will get you going in the morning, this smoothie is perfect. It takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and it’s super easy to take along with you.
The great thing about this Strawberry Oat Smoothie is that it is super versatile, so you can really change things up to your personal liking. If you prefer non-dairy, you can switch out the whole milk for plant-based milk, such as almond milk or oat milk. You can also use your favourite sweetener rather than honey.
Ingredients Needed for Strawberry Oat Smoothie
- Oats: rolled oats is the best to use in smoothies, but quick oats work well too. I wouldn’t use steel cut oats as they are a bit harder and won’t grind well enough for a smooth and creamy smoothie. Oats add many health benefits to the smoothie and makes it more filling.
- Frozen strawberries: if you want a thick, cold smoothie, I would 100% recommend using frozen strawberries, which is why it’s written in this recipe.
- Plain Yogurt: adds a creaminess and slight tanginess to the smoothie.
- Whole milk: adds more creaminess and nutrients.
- Honey: adds sweetness to the smoothie. If your strawberries are really sweet, you can omit this ingredient.
- Vanilla extract: adds an extra little vanilla flavour, you can’t go wrong with that!
Substitutions for this Smoothie Recipe
You can absolutely substitute ingredients that you love more than what’s listed in this recipe. That’s what’s so great about this recipe.
Instead of adding all strawberries, you can add half strawberries, half blueberries. Or, you can come up with your own fruit combinations. Just be sure to use frozen fruit.
To replace plain yogurt, you can use Greek yogurt, which will make the smoothie creamier and thicker. If you want a vegan smoothie, there are many vegan yogurt options out there.
Whole cow’s milk is usually my go-to for smoothies, but feel free to use your personal favourite. You can use nut milks or oat milk. I find that whole cow’s milk really makes a fuller, creamier smoothie, which I love!
For the sweetener, use whichever you prefer. I use honey because I like the taste. You can use maple syrup, agave nectar, or anything else you like.

Frequently Asked Questions
I wouldn’t recommend it. You want the frozen strawberries to keep their thickness after being blended. If you serve this smoothie later, the smoothie will have a much thinner consistency. If that’s okay with you though, then feel free to make ahead of time!
You can use a vegan yogurt option to replace the plain yogurt and use plant-based milk to replace the whole milk. See blog post above for more details.
The oats add flavour, thickness, nutrients, and makes the smoothie more filling. But, you can omit it altogether if you prefer it without.
