Peanut Punch Recipe

peanut punch recipe

This peanut punch recipe has always been one of my favourite "special" drinks, specifically * trini peanut punch *, since my parents are Trinidadian. It is truly one of the most delicious drinks out there. Take it from someone who didn't even like peanut butter for 26 years of their life (I love peanut butter now) but still loved peanut punch!

I loved peanut punch as a kid, and still do! My kids, nieces, and nephews do, too. Everybody does! It's a drink that can be enjoyed by all ages. I'm sure you and your family will love it just the same!

You will find many variations and different ways of making peanut punch. You'll find recipes known as Trini peanut punch, Jamaican peanut punch, Caribbean peanut punch, and more. They are equally delicious, even though they may be made using slightly different ingredients.

The next time you're craving a creamy drink, try this refreshing recipe and you will be completely satisfied! It is way better than store-bought punch and doesn't include all the "extra" ingredients. It literally takes minutes to whip up, so you definitely can't go wrong! You can think of this popular Island drink as a peanut butter smoothie.

Peanut Punch Ingredients

  • Peanut butter: this ingredient is what makes peanut punch actually peanut punch. You can use smooth or chunky peanut butter, since it will all be blended up until smooth, anyway.
  • Milk: I personally prefer using whole milk in this peanut punch recipe for extra creaminess, but you can choose to use 2% or skim. I once used half whole milk and half oat milk, and it tasted really good! I encourage you to use milk that suits your preference, but keep in mind it may change the taste of the finished product.
  • Evaporated milk: this ingredient is a must in this recipe. It adds a level of richness, creaminess, and body to the peanut punch.
  • Sweetened condensed milk: this is also a must! It adds more creaminess with a lovely milky flavour. It is also what sweetens the peanut drink. Feel free to add more or less to your taste.
  • Vanilla extract: adds a subtle vanilla flavour and also makes the other flavours pop.

How to Make this Recipe

This Trinidad peanut punch recipe is very simple. It requires a handful of ingredients, which you might already have in your kitchen. All you need to do with the peanut punch ingredients is blend them all up together! Done! Serve over ice and enjoy!

Substitutions or Additions

This peanut punch recipe is a pretty basic recipe but it is so yummy and it is a good place to start. I would start by making this recipe exactly as is. Once you have a taste for it, then you can start making substitutions/additions.

Here are some ideas for different ways to make peanut punch:

  • The name of this drink is Peanut Punch, which means it's supposed to be made with peanuts/peanut butter. If you really want to try something different or if you have a peanut allergy, try using almonds/almond butter instead.
  • For the milk, you can use whole, 2%, or skim. Whole milk will result in a creamier product. It you want to skip cow's milk, you can use oat, coconut, or almond milk. These will change the taste and consistency of the peanut punch, but will still be delicious.
  • For the sweetener, the sweetened condensed milk adds a beautiful sweet, milky, and creamy flavour to the drink. If you don't mind missing out on some of the creaminess, you can use honey, maple syrup, or any other sweetener of choice. You can try to get your hands on dairy-free sweetened condensed milk as well!
  • This recipe uses vanilla extract for a bit of extra, subtle flavour. You can add a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamon, or your choice of spice to take it up another level!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe vegan?

Yes! The taste and consistency will be different, but delicious nonetheless. Use oat, coconut, or almond milk instead of whole milk. Omit the evaporated milk and replace it with the plant-based milk you chose. Use maple syrup, agave nectar, coconut sugar, or your choice of sweetener to replace the sweetened condensed milk. You might be able to get your hands on dairy-free sweetened condensed milk. Vegan peanut punch might not be as creamy as non-vegan, but you can add some creaminess by adding cashew butter.

Can this peanut punch recipe be made ahead of time?

Though I prefer serving this right away due to the change in consistency that can occur, you can absolutely still make it ahead of time. Be sure to keep it in the fridge, in an airtight container, for no longer than 3 days. When ready to serve, give it a good stir before pouring into serving glasses. You can even add a splash of milk if you find it's thickened a bit too much.
